Geocaching Lake Vermilion

Today we broke the boat out and cached the west side of Lake Vermilion, tomorrow we might just head back and cache from the center of the lake to the east, but we'll see!! :)) The only way to these geocaches is by water!!! COOL!!!!

On to the next cache, around a .80 mile hike on this nice trail system.

Here's To You "Ole"

Northern Mn. lost a great man this week, and he was a geocacher.
Nice to have known you kind Sir!!!
We ran into "Ole" a couple of different times out searching for caches, and he was always the funny guy with the great big smiles at geocaching events. Our kids called him Papa Dale #2, because he so closely resembled their grandfather. Nice memories to have!!
Peace.........

Tuesday morning VIA AerosmithPA/Steve............. Thanks for the nice write up Steve!!!
.........................................................................................................................................
This morning we received news that our dear caching friend Russ Crawford (better known as ‘Ole’ of Ole and Lena) has passed away from a heart attack. Ole had a well-known name among northern Minnesota geocachers, second only to Bigfoot. The network of people he touched was vast. The contact list in his phone was full of seemingly anyone you wanted to get ahold of.

Russ also had a voracious appetite as a FTF fanatic, being the first to find a cache was a source of joy and accomplishment to Russ. The tougher the better. Russ enjoyed both telling and hearing a good story from the trail. He was an Air Force Veteran, who retired in Northern Minnesota to enjoy the outdoors and regular trips to the Boundry Waters Canoe Area (BWCA).

He will be sadly missed by his wife Donna, his family, and the countless people Russ touched with his wit and humor.

An Afternoon of Geocaching............................

Cindi still wasn't feeling well, i felt somewhat better, but the kids really needed to get out of the house!!!
so we loaded up and headed south to hwy 200, and geocached our way west over to Hill City, and then made a big loop through Grand Rapids, and then back to home. 7 for 7 this fine early fall afternoon!!! sweet!!
Peace........................................

what Jenna has near her face was the geocache we found near the Vets war memorial in Hill City, Mn.
a BIG thumbs up to all the VETS out there!!!
of course we had to have some play time!!!

School has Started

And with it the snot nosed kids (at school) bad hinge habits have found their way to our home!!! YUCK!!

as i type this Cindi is passed out on the couch, not dealing well with this bug.
i started to feel not so good last night, and i awoke at 4 a.m. with a head full of snot and that oh shit I'm not gonna be able to function at work feeling, DAMN IT anyway!!! so at 4:30 a.m. i made the call into work that i won't be in today.
how is it that the kids aren't sick, but the adults are??
our Jenna starts her 2nd year of head start on Monday, and she is really looking forward to it!!!
go Super J go!!
Cindi and i had a choice to make as far as Jenna goes.
during the last week of head start last year they did testing of all the kids in J's head start class, and Jenna tested out at a 6th grade level!!! she is the youngest child in her class, and all i can say about that is WOW!!!!
so they told us we should move her on to 1st grade.
well, Cindi and i talked, and we said NO, she'll stay were she is.
if in the future she gets bored or things are coming to easy for her, we'll move her up a grade.
oh well here's to another school year!!

Hinckely with Family.................

We left for a family function in Hinckely, Mn. Saturday afternoon. we stopped in Floodwood to pick up a geocache, and then made our way to Hinckely.

of course we brought our bikes!!
the kids had a blast!!

then it was bedtime, at around midnight!!! LOL

i was cooking burgers Sat. night, and this was the view i had looking to the west from our Villa.
Cousins hanging out waiting for the bus to the indoor pool.
PEACE!!! :)

Playing Monday afternoon before we left.

yes i brought the "Fats" too.
i got a lot of slow pavement miles with the kids, which was awesome for them, and i have to say not bad for this old guy!!LOL

all in all it was a great time.
Sept. 19th I'll be doing a ride for Pancreatic cancer http://www.pancan.org/purpleride/html/index.html in Maple Grove.
it's a big family ride for Cindi's Uncle Mike (who is no longer with us), it should be a grand time, and yes i'll be doing the 50 mile pedal.
here's to us hoping everyone else had a great long weekend too!!!
Peace............................

1/2 Day of Work = GREAT FUN!!!!

As i sit down to post this, I'm hammering down a nice steak off the grill, and a couple Summit ESB's!!! damn good if i do say so myself.
anyway, i bolted from work at 11!!!!! what?? my work was done, so "F" it!!!
i get home, pack up the kids and head out to do some geocaching, with the highlight of our 6 caches being Bird Lake (GCG3NX). what fun!!!!
we had about a .35 of a mile hike, and we found the cache in the 1st place we looked.
this cache has been out in the wild since 2003, and the poor coffee can hasn't held up well over time. so today the kids and i replaced the old beat up coffee can with a brand new ammo can!!!
anyway, it was a great day!!
Peace.....................................
